Sloppy Love and the Ultimate Cleanser

Most of you know, but for those don't I am a Mommy to an active 3 year old. My sassy little Madison loves to give love. I truly believe that one of her love languages is physical touch because baby girl is always dishing out hugs and kisses. It doesn't matter what we are doing at the time, when Maddie decides to show her loves she shows it. So that means when we're having pancakes with syrup and the mood hits her, well this Momma is on the receiving end of some sticky hugs and kisses. When we're brushing teeth and she wants to spread the love, guess what? Yep you got it, toothpaste kisses for everyone! lol I have affectionately named her display of affection as Madison's sloppy love. Now before you judge the name, hear me out.

When the sticky, gooey, wet kisses and hugs are flowing Madison means well. Her intentions are good, but her presentation leaves much to be desired (especially for this germaphobe Momma!). It made me think about how we present our love to Christ. How often do we show our love for Him covered in sticky, gooey, wet messes. Sure, our intentions may be good but what does our presentation look like. I know for a fact that mine leaves a lot to be desired. And if I'm honest, it will always be that way. We [you and I] are sinful beings, constantly at war with our flesh and this world. Just imperfect people, living for a perfect God. He knows we will never be worthy of His love, but the good news is that He sees us as worth it. It doesn't matter what our love looks like.

His love is sufficient enough to make up for what our presentation lacks. Christ died for us knowing our love would be messy. He knew that we would keep on sinning, and that He would keep on forgiving.

I pray for those who haven't come to know His love. Those that think they have to clean themselves up before inviting Christ into their lives. My hope for them is that they'll know it doesn't matter what they've done, or even what they're doing now. If they want to be changed and made whole, my Savior can do just that (2 Cor. 5:17). HE is the ultimate cleanser. So when we come to Him with our messy love covered in the residue of sin He WILL clean us up. Make us new. All we have to do is intentionally seek Christ, believe in His resurrection Power, and allow Him to change us from the inside out. I will always welcome my Madison's sloppy love, because that's my child. She is apart of me and I will gracefully accept her intentionally good love. Just as the Lord gracefully loves and accepts me.
